AFTER 40 / THE EVIDENCE EDIT
Peptides and the longevity boom: what is proven?
A grounded way to assess exciting but widely over-marketed treatment claims.

A peptide is not one kind of medicine
Some peptide-based medicines have well-established, FDA-approved indications. That does not validate unrelated injectable peptides marketed for recovery, anti-aging or longevity.
Be specific about approval
Check the exact substance, formulation, indication and regulatory status. Unapproved or compounded preparations have different oversight and evidence than approved drugs.
Evidence matters more than mechanisms
Cellular or animal studies are not proof that a treatment safely extends human life. Look for replicated human clinical outcomes and long-term safety data.
Watch for red flags
Guaranteed rejuvenation, secret protocols, no disclosed adverse effects and claims of FDA approval for unrelated uses all warrant skepticism.
Questions to bring to your clinician
- Is this exact therapy approved for this indication?
- What human outcomes improved, compared with what control?
- What safety monitoring is documented?
- Is there a registered trial rather than a sales package?
